Miley Cyrus’s New Pixie Looks Nothing Like the Haircuts Your Mom Used to Give You

Now that we’ve spent so many moons at home, the temptation to take hair—its length and its color—into one’s own hands is an admittedly strong one. And though the undertaking can be risky, some in-home hairstyles are a cut above others—like Miley Cyrus‘s new punkish pixie. The pop star exchanged her now-iconic mulleted shag for a shorter iteration this week, the chop executed by a dream team comprised of a virtual Sally Hershberger and Miley’s mother, Tish.

Several inches shorter and cut to frame her face to elvish effect, the cut was cultivated after a creative conversation between Miley (currently in Los Angeles) and Hershberger (from the Hamptons), the originators of Miley’s party-in-the-back coiffure. Hershberger led the charge via FaceTime, with Tish turning stereotypes of mom-induced bowl cuts and accidentally abbreviated bangs on their heads, deftly carrying off the transformation. The result is Miley mullet 2.0, the ideal ‘do for elevating sweatpants, playing remote concerts, and all that this present moment entails.
