Kim Kardashian West is a champion of unlikely trends. For starters, she was out on the streets wearing bike shorts well before it became a popular fad. “I remember everyone made fun of me for these bike shorts,” she told Vogue of her favorite Yeezy pair last year. “Then, of course, everyone was wearing it two years later.” She’s also responsible for making clingy vintage Jean Paul Gaultier pieces a hot commodity, among others throwback pieces. But her latest look is pushing the boundaries further than we could have imagined. She is wearing white leather chaps—Yeehaw.
Today, the star posted a new series of Instagram ’fit pics from home, in which she is wearing a high-fashion cowgirl getup and a white blond wig. “All dressed up with nowhere to go,” the start wrote in the caption. The reality star sports a matching white bra and underwear set, then gave them a rodeo-ready twist with her belted white leather chaps, which have a button-down ankle detail. To give the western statement piece that signature “Kim K” look, as she likes to call it, she then finished off the daring ensemble with more fashion-minded accessories: tiny black sunglasses and clear Amina Muaddi heels. (PVC heels are another trend she’s brought to the forefront.)
But while these pants are novel, it’s not the first time chaps have forayed into the world of fashion. Back in spring 2009, Givenchy added leather chap detailing onto a variety of its denim jeans. For fall 2014, Versace’s menswear show also had men rocking chaps with patterned tighty-whities. Kardashian West even stepped out in chaps: she wore Burberry’s leather boot-pant hybrid. So this begs the question—will you be giddying up and ordering a pair of chaps to lounge around in at home? Unlikely, but it would be a great get up to wear just for Instagram. Those apprehensive about the look better saddle up.
