Our summer plans may be looking a little different this year, but there’s no denying the joy of wearing something fresh and summery on a hot day. Certain clothing makes you feel like you’re on vacation, even if you’re not. Take it from Vogue’s commerce editor Julie Tong, who couldn’t resist acquiring (or “indulging” she calls it) in a tropical floral sarong ahead of her July 4th weekend trip to upstate New York. “While it’s only 3 hours from my apartment in Brooklyn, I still wanted to make myself feel like I’m ‘on vacation.’ Thus, to set the mood, you need the right attire.” Fashion and style writer Christian Allaire, another vacation outfit optimist, has decided that his summer wardrobe altogether, “will be all about dressing like I’m on vacation, even if I’m not”.

There are no rules against wearing a maxi halter dress to run to the grocery store or a pair of beach shorts while you’re in a Zoom meeting. Associate market editor, Mai Morsch’s work from home lifestyle changed drastically when she re-discovered her colorful, summery caftans, and has certainly perfected the vacation look without even leaving the house.

Traveling to far flung destinations is highly unlikely this summer, but you can still bring the vacation to you wherever you are. There’s plenty of wonderful resort wear and vacation outfit inspiration to wear anywhere while going nowhere, no matter what your plans may be.
