VogueBeautyHalloween Challenge: Embrace Spooky Season With Your Best Makeup Look

Spooky season is upon us, and while social distancing measures may have put a damper on this year’s Halloween festivities, it shouldn’t mean you have to lower the bar on your Halloween costume entirely—let alone your Halloween glam! Even if you’re staying home and skipping trick-or-treating, there’s no reason to rebuke creativity this holiday season. Now’s the time to bust out your beauty skills, dust off your makeup brushes, and flex an epic beat for the ’gram (whether it’s glamorous or gory). Vogue is here with an added incentive to do just that: Meet the #VogueBeautyHalloween Challenge.

To introduce our new social media challenge, Vogue enlisted the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 to outline all the rules in a new video—because who knows how to do full glam better than some world-famous drag queens? You heard the queens: From now until October 31, drag superstars Jaida Essence Hall, Gigi Goode, Crystal Methyd, and more want to see you post your best Halloween-inspired beauty looks to Instagram. Be sure to use the hashtag #VogueBeautyHalloween when posting, and your photo may just be reposted to @voguemagazine and @voguebeauty on November 1, as well as featured in a round-up slideshow on Vogue.com that same day.

Now that we’ve gotten all of the guidelines out of the way, remember that there are no winners here—just favorites!—meaning you can truly think outside of the box and create virtually any sort of look that tickles your fancy. Whether it’s a makeup look inspired by your favorite horror movie—Freddy Krueger realness, anyone?—or a chic Halloween glam inspired by a Hollywood icon—a Liz Taylor in Cleopatra-style eye, perhaps?—or a classic clown, the sky is truly the limit. Just be sure to have a clear reference and pro-level execution—because we and the Drag Race queens will be watching closely.

The cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12, featured in the Vogue video, includes Heidi N Closet, Widow Von’Du, Brita, Dahlia Sin, Crystal Methyd, Nicky Doll, Jackie Cox, Aiden Zhane, Rock M. Sakura, Jan, Jaida Essence Hall, and Gigi Goode.
