Kim Kardashian Unites Fast Food and Rare Archival Fashion

Everyone and their fashion history-loving mother has been wearing archival looks. The latest uber-rare piece comes from Kim Kardashian West. Last night, she posted six images of herself in the Jean Paul Gaultier studio in Paris with the caption “JPG x KFC.” That stands for, yes, Jean Paul Gaultier and the fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken. In the slideshow, KKW wore a body-hugging Jean Paul Gaultier cyberdot print dress from the Fall 1995 collection from Pechuga Vintage and came in triptastic hues of blood red, mint green, and blazing yellow at the JPG headquarters in Paris. In one image, she poses in narrow oval sunglasses and a pair of Yeezy sock boots the color of a gray sidewalk. In another, she takes a selfie in a mirror while Kanye munches on a piece of chicken. There is also a bicycle montage in which KKW poses on a white tricycle with a customized roof (reminiscent of a crib mobile) and a “Gaultier” license plate. In the last image, West ventures out in in the full cyberdot garb, along with Kanye, to order a piece of KFC chicken herself. (Let’s hope she didn’t get grease on the dress that is over 25 years old and cannot be found anywhere online.)

KKW isn’t the first to wear the treasured JPG style. Back in August, Cardi B donned an incarnation of the cyberdot dress, hers a more yellow version, with an itty-bitty Fenty bag, to the Hustlers premiere in Los Angeles. (Her dress was also sourced from Pechuga Vintage.) And only two days ago, the singer Jorja Smith wore the jumpsuit version to the Brit Awards in London. KKW and Smith wearing the JPG computerized, radical, and very vintage look comes a month after Jean Paul Gaultier announced that he would cease operations this past January. Clearly, the love for the designer is still going strong.
