Kate Middleton Kicks Off Her Ireland Tour With an All-Green Look

This morning, Kate Middleton and Prince William kicked off their three-day tour of Ireland, the royal couple’s first official visit to the country. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touched down in Dublin and met with the Irish President Michael D. Higgins and his wife, Sabina Coyne. Afterward, they attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Garden of Remembrance. For the official visit, Middleton paid homage to the one of the country’s national colors—green—in an ensemble that included her go-to labels.

Sitting for tea with Higgins and Coyne, Middleton wore a printed green top and skirt from London-based designer Alessandra Rich’s spring 2020 collection. The top’s sharp shoulder pads and bejeweled buttons channelled the 1980s in a refined way. (Before the meeting, she also deplaned wearing a dark green Catherine Walker coat—one of her favorite labels—to go with the look.) The Duchess chose an unexpected accessory to go with her two-piece: a padded black headband, which dressed up the outfit even further, as did her green L.K. Bennett clutch, sleek Emmy London pumps, and fine earrings from Asprey London.

As for Prince Harry, he also nodded to the local color. The duke sported a dark green polka-dot tie to match Middleton’s color scheme.

Though it’s only one day into Middleton’s Ireland tour, it will be interesting to see whether the Duchess will embrace Irish designers during the trip. The royal typically supports and highlights talents from the countries that she visits; perhaps she will slip on elegant couture from Sharon Wauchob to one of her upcoming evening commitments? Only time will tell, but the tour is already off to a strong start.
