Kehlani Shares Her Quarantine Skin-Care Routine—And the Foundation Trick She Learned From Cardi B

There’s no slowing Kehlani down. The singer, who just released her second studio album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, is not letting the current quarantine kill her vibe. The California native recently filmed and edited a music video from the comfort of her own home, and this week, she’s sharing her full quarantine skin care and makeup routine, plus a few insider tricks she’s learned along the way.

Kehlani begins her skin-care regimen by cleansing and toning. “I have really, really dry skin,” she explains while making circular motions with her creamy cleanser. So to ensure her skin stays hydrated all day, the singer pats on a layer of hyaluronic acid serum, followed by a Korean beauty essence and an oil concoction to lock it all in. As a primer, she dabs a beauty balm on her extra-dry spots, like her forehead and nose.

Makeup begins with two foundations: Kehani first dabs on Pat McGrath’s cult formula and finishes with NARS’ sheer cover. To camoflauge any under-eye circles, she swipes on a brightening concealer. She’ll be the first to admit it took her a little while to master contouring. “At first I came out looking like a clown,” she jokes while applying a bronzer stick.

“My eyebrows haven’t been done in centuries,” she says as she creates a polished set. Next, she curls her lashes and swipes on two coats of black mascara, making sure to include the bottom fringe. For a youthful flush, she takes a rose-colored liquid blush across her cheeks.

To create a sunset-inspired look, Kehlani swipes a series of yellow and orange shadows across her lids, and takes a shimmering gold highlighter to the top of her cheekbones. And as for her all-time favorite product? “If I could marry this compact, I probably would,” she says of Charlotte Tilbury’s powder, and pats it on the corner of her nose for a blurring effect.

For the final steps, she sets her makeup with two different setting sprays, ensures her face tattoos are visible, and checks for any foundation residue on her nose ring—a trick learned from Cardi B one night after a performance. “I sit down and she goes, ‘you better clean your nose ring.'”

Lastly, Kehlani defines her pout with a liner and finishes with a gloss. “Everybody knows I love lip gloss, I don’t go nowhere without lip gloss”—even if the trip is to the living room and back.
