Kid Cudi’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ Dress Is a Timely Tribute to Kurt Cobain

The look harks back to another of Cobain’s most iconic outfits that he wore for a live show in 1989. The legendary Nirvana frontman was known for challenging gender norms with his fashion choices, noting in an interview with the Los Angeles Times: “Wearing a dress shows I can be as feminine as I want. I’m a heterosexual… big deal, but if I was a homosexual, it wouldn’t matter, either.” Worn to coincide with the 27th anniversary of Cobain’s death earlier this month, it made for a powerful salute to one of music’s most renegade style icons. As Abloh himself put it in an Instagram post he shared of the look: “Freedom is as freedom does. Feel free.”
