The Best Dressed Stars at the 2021 BAFTA Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards is unique among awards season stalwarts. The celebration of the best in British film and television has an ever-evolving dress code (this weekend’s called for sustainable dressing) and celebrity-filled guest list where movie stars mingle alongside master thespians. Stars live-streamed in from around the globe, but many also made their way to Royal Albert Hall to participate in the socially-distanced event. No matter where the attendees were on the map, they managed to have fun with style, breaking from their red carpet routines and dazzling the audience at home.

Power couple Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas returned to the red carpet with flair, allowing Chopra Jonas the opportunity to pull out two pieces from Roland van Der Kemp’s ethically crafted fall/winter 2020 couture collection. Her intricate jacket and plissé skirt were dazzling. Add to this the fact that both were crafted from van Der Kemp’s archives from recycled elements, and you had a sustainable statement look that delivered drama.

Household names like Chopra Jonas and an Armani Privé-clad Renée Zellweger gave the night its fashion gravitas, but many of the BAFTA’s best style moments belonged to emerging talent who embraced British eccentricity. Singer-songwriter Celeste upped the night’s cool quotient by arriving in a custom piece from Turkish-British designer Dilara Findikoglu. A twist on an existing look from Findikoglu’s spring/summer 2020 collection, the dress’s emerald green fringe, built-in gloves, and vine embellishment was a welcome break from standard-issue awards season gowns. Likewise, the neon Louis Vuitton halter dress with strategic cutouts worn by County Lines star Ashley Madekwe felt like a refreshing break from the norm.

Male stars were just as adventurous. A Versace clad-Leslie Odom Jr. continued his winning streak of memorable suits. Still, when it comes to menswear moments, no one could match the cuteness of 7-year-old Minari scene-stealer Alan Kim, who delighted in a kid-size tailored suit from Thom Browne that was downright adorable.
